These days breast cancer is extremely common but if you look back in breast cancer history, you will see that it has not always been as common as it is today.
It is thought that due to the higher exposure to chemicals, our risk of developing diseases such as breast cancer has really shot up. It is thought that we used to be exposed to just over 50 different chemicals years ago, yet today we are exposed to over 5,000. When you look at it like that it is not surprising that illnesses are on their way up!
What do you know About the History of Breast Cancer?
When it comes to the history of breast cancer, if you do your research you will see that breast cancer was actually first recorded in the times of the Egyptians. One of the first three people to develop the disease was actually a man and whilst breast cancer cases have shot up, these days it is rarer for men than it is for women.
When you look at the history of breast cancer diagnosis, you will see that whilst it starts during Egyptian times, it wasn’t until the 18th century that a treatment was developed and research was begun. Now today research is still being carried out and treatments are constantly being updated.
Breast cancer treatment history is actually quite shocking. In the beginning tumours were removed by a method called ‘the fire drill’ and even though the tumour was removed, the cancer almost always took its course anyway and people still lost their lives. So the survival rate was not good when the disease first started appearing. These days the survival rate is fairly high, though people do still die every single day from the disease.
Breasts will always be a slightly taboo subject, but when you look at the history of bare breast fashion, you will see that after the French revolution bare breasts became extremely fashionable. In turn, as bare breasts became fashionable, so did breast implants. If you look at the history of breast implants or the history of breast augmentation as it is otherwise known, you will see that safety was not always a priority; but thankfully these days things have improved a lot and having breast implants is actually fairly safe.
Overall the history of breast cancer will show you just how far the treatments and survival rate has improved today. As time goes on more research is being done and more treatments will no doubt be introduced in the future.
