Over the past couple of years breast health has become more talked about and more widely advertised. Breast health is extremely important and one thing that affects the health of our breasts is our lifestyle. Not many women think about it, but it is essential to look at your lifestyle to see just how it could be affecting your breasts.

Lifestyle and Pregnancy

The main time that our lifestyles will affect our breast health is during pregnancy. Various lifestyle choices can result in problems with the milk that the breasts produce. Obviously that can be a big concern for the health of our children and so we really have to start looking into why these problems occur.

Various factors which could affect breast health include:

Our Diet
Rest and Relaxation
Medication
Smoking and Alcohol

The above factors can not only affect you during pregnancy but they can also affect your breast health at any time. So it is important to take a look at each factor and see whether any improvements need to be made.

How Lifestyle Choices Can Affect Our Breasts

Breast health and lifestyle choices do come hand in hand. For example, when we think about our diets, the main thing that we are usually concerned with is weight gain. However, our diets can also contribute to problems through our breasts, especially if you are breast feeding. There are certain foods that can come through with the breast milk which your baby may be allergic to. Obviously that will cause problems and you will need to try to figure out exactly what foods are causing the problem.

Weight gain can still be a problem with breast health as the more overweight that you are, the bigger the chance of developing breast cancer. So it is important to have a healthy diet in order to decrease your risk.

Certain medications which we are taking can also contribute towards poor breast health. This is because whilst we may need the medication to sort out another problem within our bodies, that same medication could actually increase your chance of developing breast cancer. Coming back to the breastfeeding issue also, you may not be able to breastfeed whilst taking various medications as it could potentially harm your baby. So always check with a doctor before breastfeeding when taking a new medication.
Finally alcohol and smoking are two of the biggest lifestyle choices which affect our breast health. So many women are diagnosed with breast cancer due to their lifestyle choices such as smoking and drinking excessively and it can be prevented.

Overall all of our lifestyle choices can be changed so that we live a healthier life. Our breasts are one part of our bodies which we rarely take well care of, but when you look at it and you realize that it does not take a lot to improve our breast health. So if you have never considered your breast health before, why not start today?
