It is a well known fact that breast milk is extremely good for new born babies. As well as providing them with all the nutrients that they need, it also bonds mother and baby together right from day one. However whilst it is extremely important, do you know exactly what is in your milk and what happens if you do not produce enough milk to feed your baby?
Breast Milk and the Problems Which Sometimes Occur
During pregnancy you will find that your breasts become bigger due to the milk production within them. Through this build up of milk, breasts increase in size and they even start to leak milk towards the end of the pregnancy. Now milk filled breasts are not always very comfortable to live with and it can cause a few problems. So when the baby finally does come, many women find it a relief to breast feed and get rid of the excess milk which has been causing them discomfort. However there are others who find that a baby sucking breast milk can be extremely painful so it all depends upon each individual how they will actually cope with breastfeeding.
Something which many women do not realise is that the more that you nurse your baby; you will have an increase in breast milk. Another thing that some women do not realize is that their breasts produce different milk at different stages. In the beginning you develop Colostrum milk which is only present in small amounts when the baby is born. This is so that it will suit your baby’s tiny stomach. Secondly you produce mature milk which increases production every 48-72 hours.
Any breast producing milk will occasionally feel heavy and uncomfortable so it is important to nurse your baby whenever you can. Some women also like to taste breast milk to see what their baby tastes and also to see if it is warm enough or too hot on the tongue.
One problem which new mothers worry about is breast milk storage. How exactly do you store breast milk? Well ideally you should store the milk in sterilized air-tight containers. If you want to store it for a long period of time then putting it in a glass or plastic bottle may be preferred.
Another problem some women also experience is that they either have an increasing breast milk problem or they do not develop enough milk in the breast. One controversial way of getting more milk is to look for breast milk for sale. It is unbelievable but some people do actually sell their breast milk online to women who do not produce enough themselves. So it is an option though not a very tempting one! Although all breast producing milk have the same kind of milk in them, really you never know where anything has been when you buy it online and you should never risk the health of your baby by buying somebody else’s milk. So only allow your baby the opportunity of drinking breast milk from you and nobody else. The only other options is to either try to nurse more as this produces more milk, or try and use cows or goats milk.
